Personalised view of a family |
|
Hello all,
I take this topic from "desired features" subject, by Marc.
Quote: | 1. Could you make it so that when you have a family group and one of the family members has a front page image, all the family members inherit the front page image? (Maybe a note on the inherited images "Image from corresponing patent XX000000" would be good). |

Quote: | 1. It's not specialy easy to do this because sometime in one family there are several pictures. So which to choose? |
Reply of Marc
Quote: | 1. Maybe make it so that when you download the entire family, then the first patent in the group is one with an image. This also solves point 7. Another simpler way of solving this (not as good) is to make it possible to for the user to change the order of the documents in the patent family. For example lets say there is
WO
-US
-EP
-JP
and the only one with an image is the US patent. Then the user should be able to easily change the order so that it looks like this:
US
-WO
-EP
-JP |
My suggestion on this point:
I think that this problem does not affect just to the picture, but is much more general. It also affects to the abstract, and MAINLY to be able to choose which one is the "main patent" of the family. It is a problem to be able to customize the view of a patent family. Also I think that this problem will be stronger in the future when MP exploits other patent databases. There is not the "perfect database" so then there will be some "blank fields" but also more "duplicated fields". So why not solve this problem now?
I think that the definitive solution to this problem is to have a "MP DEFAULT list of patent countries" ranked by "quality" of their patent records; this list should be editable by users according to "personal preferences". If MP solves this, that would be more than great.
MP could use this list of countries for building a personalised view of a family (in case that ALL the family members have been downloaded):
1.- First and most important, to choose (from the existing family countries) the most valued patent country as the "representative member" of the family, so all the registration numbers (application, publication data, etc) belongs to this member.
2.- In case that the "representative member" has no title, to choose the "title" of the most valued patent country with title.
3.- In case that the "representative member" has no abstract, to choose the "abstract" of the most valued patent country with abstract.
4.- In case that the "representative member" has no image, to choose the "image" of the most valued patent country with images.
In this way, every user would see every family according to quality criteria and also according to other personal criteria: I mean, if I am from a country XX, probably I will prefer to see the registration data in this country XX even if the quality is not so good, but also complete the title, abstract, image from other countries with more data.

This feature is available in another software program called InventionNavigator (www.s4ip.de). They have a master table of countries and you can order them in any order that you want. Then when you download documents, each family is automatically arranged according to this master table.

Hi,
I work this Week end !
Now, it's possible to choose a "Ranking Country" to sort Patent Family.
(New revision : 050703).
Close all projects, go to menu "File"->"List of Ranking Country" and choose order of all countries. Up Country to increase priority, or Down to decrease this one.
I limit volontary to 6 countries and only 6. If this list is not appropriate to you, you can modify this one but you must have always 6 countries.
(Edit pharma7.ini to modify this list).

Hi, I've been testing and I can answer.
It runs just for new projects, but I think that it is really good.
You define a country rank
You begin a search, view the results, save and exit
Now you define a new country rank
You open the search and you view the results according to the new rank.
I have a question: Why the maximum of 6 countries? What if we define more than 6 countries?

In the view of the main array.
If you choose :
WO
-EP
-FR
-US
-JP
-DE
So you have in the main array (view):
+WO
- EP
- FR
etc...
if you choose :
FR
-EP
-WO
-US
-JP
-DE
So you have in the main array (view):
+FR
- EP
- WO
etc...
it's oky ?? |

Sorry, I did some tests with past projects but in my projects I don't download systematically the family so my conclusions were not correct.
The right conclusion is that "country rank" works ok in all the cases where "download patent family" has been checked.

... In my particular case I have some time ago a rank of preferred "main countries" to read original documents (main countries that publish in english, french, german, spanish). I use this rank to choose automatically the best original document in case of large families etc ... in my case I have 9 countries where I can find readable documents ... before the rest of main countries eg Japan, Russia etc (which are unreadable to me) or before other "not main countries" (wich are readable to me eg Portugal)
Anyway it is a very personal topic I think. Every user should be able to apply this list according to "language skills" or to "countries of interest". Could you let it open so every user could add as many countries as liked?

hi,
ouf it's oky
For the max country rank, it's very hard to me (in my program) to do a "function" where user can add country undefinitly.
So , i can increase to 10 but not unlimited.
Best regards,
