USPTO Assignee = applicant??? |
|
I have a question about searching the USPTO:
In the US the inventor and applicant are the same, which I think would give a problem when searching for a company in the 'applicant' field.
Should there not be a separate search field 'Assignee' for USPTO documents, or is Matheo automatically searching the assignee field already with the 'applicant' name? |

Hi Bart,
MPatent collect information for the 'applicant' directly in the field assignee.
But i don't understand really your question, can you explain me more what you want, for example, in fact ?

Hi Bruno,
I just wanted to be sure I was not missing any hits when retrieving patent information from the USPTO aimed at a certain company as a search term, as Matheo only has an applicant search field, which is different from the assignee-field at the USPTO.
Under US patent law the company can not bein the 'applicant' field, because the inventors have to be the applicants, and the company can only be an assignee.
I understand from your answer that for USPTO, the 'applicant'-search term which is used to search 'applicant' in Espacenet is automatically used in the Assignee-field in USPTO, right? |
