| Export to csv (comma separated values) |
|
Hi Bruno,
Sometimes I'd like to do particular post-processing to some patent sets. To do this I use MS Excel. So I have to export to TXT and then execute some macros to convert TXT in CSV format.
Could you build an export directly to CSV? I think that this format is of general interest.

Yes I know
When I like to export to CSV usually I like to export names, dates, numbers, etc, not long texts ... but I know that CSV can be used also to import data to databases. In this case a user would like to import also abs, claims, etc. (without line returns)
Is it something important to you? Do you like to restrict to some fields?
I mean, from programming point of view I think that it is just to:
- Eliminate " from all the texts of all the fields
- insert " before and after all the fields
- insert a separator between fields that could be eg , ; |
- insert a return after every record
- optionally, you can insert the first line with the same format but with the name of fields

Hi Bruno, one important precision:
At the moment MP exports just ONE patent per family.
---
Question: I assume that MP chooses the most important family member according to user country preferences, right?
---
I agree that one patent per family is the best option for listings of patents. But when a user likes to export to CSV (to do further processing of patent families in excell), then it is BASIC to be able to export ALL the family members.
Could you implement this option? you could make it available to all formats but I suggest to make AT LEAST to CSV format

Hi Juan,
ok i note this option in my ToDo List.
I will propose to user to export only one patent per family or all patents.
Sincerely,
Bruno |

Hi Bruno,
If you agree, here you are more work to improve MP:
I have been testing the csv export but also EXPORTS IN GENERAL ...
1) In csv, I see that you include the "tag" of each field in the contents of the field, eg
"PN - WO0233254","UR - http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?F=3&CY=ep&LG=en&IDX=WO0233254" ... and so on
sorry but this format is not valid. csv format must include just the contents of each field without tags.
You could provide optionally the name of each field in the first line in this way:
"PN","URL", etc
"WO0233254","http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?F=3&CY=ep&LG=en&IDX=WO0233254", etc
2) Now MP exports only one record per family, but I have checked that the record exported IS NOT THE MAIN PATENT.
=> Which criteria does MP follow to choose the "representative" record? Could you modify to export the MAIN Patent?
3) It could be good to have all the export options available not in the MENU but also the INDEX contextual menu (to export not all the records but just the records from a group)
Also two other details, I know you have in the TODO:
4) Please include the possibility to export not just one record per family but ALL the members of a family
5) Please let the user choose the order of the records. It is not important in CSV but very important when doing a Word Report
Many thanks and Regards _________________ Juan Carlos Vergara |
