The APA provides the way to answer key questions in this domain by building bibliometrics correlations between all the information fields available in a patent. The analysis of the IPC (International patent Classification) provides one of the best ways to see the key technologies developed in that field, to make the automatic benchmarking of various applicants, etc… Beyond the classical application of palm oil, to provide for instance a crude material to develop various soaps, the analysis give an overall view of the domain and underline various niches in which a potential business can be developed. The APA as presented in this paper can be extended to various other fields of natural products development as well as for the analysis of various products and technologies since the patent database (the world patent database available from the EPO (European Patent Office) covers most the applications protected in the world. The cost of such analysis cannot be compared to the same bibliometrics treatments of commercial databases since the access to the world patent database is free.
