				| Extra groups? | |
				| Hi,
 Quick question..

Is it possible to have more sets of groups? E.g. groups3, 4 and 5?

 Best,

 Tim

				| Hi Tim,
No, sorry but could you tell me what kind of interest to have several sets of groups ?

				| Hi Brunno,
 Thanks for your quick reply

If I want a matrix or network diagram (for example of the applicants and technologies in a project) then I need to use the local search engine to pick out the main applicants - so I can group
groups/atomic which includes ("atomic inc" and "atomic corp")
 groups/boarders

Then I can do the same for the technologies like groups2/composites
 groups2/ergonomics
 groups2/testing_methods

Then I can create a useful matrix or network diagram.

However I'm also interested to know which inventors moved between the companies so I'd want
 groups3/joe_smith
 groups3/andy_jones

Then I can compare three variables.

Also of interest would be a second set of technologies - from a different perspective - such as
 groups4/standard-layout-snowboards
 groups4/snowboards-with-joints
 groups4/other_snowboard_layouts

Now I can compare four variables

I could also find other variables of interest such as
 groups5/companies_which_only_make_snowboards
 groups5/companies_which_also_make_skis
 groups5/companies_which_also_make_outdoor_clothing

Once I have several variables, I can ask a larger range of questions - I.e. by comparing groups to groups2, or groups2 to groups3 etc.

Setting up the groups takes a long time so I don't want to delete all my groups2 so I can make a new set. So I need several ways to store groups.

With the snowboards example I could only think of 5 ways to use groups - however in my industry I'm sure I can benefit from having more than 5 sets of groups.

Also it's useful to be able to try two different approaches. For example when I created my company groups I wanted to keep the division between the subsidiaries of the larger companies - this may be useful when comparing the companies to the technologies. But it was not useful when comparing the companies to each other i.e. a network diagram of group2 vs group2) because it made it more complicated.

So extra groups would also allow me to have different approaches and decide which was best afterwards.

 I hope this helps,

 Tim

				| Hi Tim,
Thank a lot for all these comments. I understand now.

But I have another idea :

Why do not give the choice to the user to select, inside a Group, which items he wants to select ?

With this method, just after the selection of Group/Group2, a new window appears which asks "Select items inside this group".

I think so Group2 will be unused !

What do you think about this idea ?

				| Hi Brunno,
So if I click network diagram of group vs group then I get two lists of tick boxes? Yes - that could work!

However I do have a lot of categories within each group though (e.g. 50 in groups, and 50 in group2), so it would be useful to be able to store my choices so I can quickly use them again?

E.g. instead of selecting 20 boxes I could select the one at the end called 'preset 1' (or maybe it gets a name), and those boxes get automatically ticked?

 Would this be possible?

 Tim

				| | |
				| ....or alternatively, the storage of presets would not be neccessary if the user chooses group names like:
 group/app:atomic
 group/app:snowboarders
 group/inv:joe_bloggs
 group/inv:andy_jones
 group/tech1:ergonomics
 group/tech1:testing_methods
 group/tech1:composites
 group/tech2:standard-layout-snowboards
 group/tech2:snowboards-with-joints
 group/tech2:other_snowboard_layouts
 group/co-type:snowboard_manufacturers
 group/co-type:ski_manufacturers
 group/co-type:clothing_manufacturers

Above the tick boxes would be a text box for the user to type something like "tech1" and press the "select" button. This would pre-select all the choices beginning with "tech1". (perhaps there would also be a "de-select" button).

In this case it would be useful if the chart, the network diagram or the matrix diagram only showed the text after the ":" symbol.

Is this a much easier solution?

 Tim

				| Sorry Tim,
Actually the best that I can do is to select items in each field (Group and Group 2)

 Your solution is too complex

				| Hi Brunno,
Ok so only group vs group2 with tick-boxes (not group vs group allowing different choices)?

It's still a good solution although it will take me more time (In some cases I'll add identical groups and group2s). I think I can see why the group vs group idea is more complex.

I'll be a very happy customer if you can offer your solution!

By the way Brunno - You are certainly offering the best support of any software company I've ever heard of
Do you have a software development team or is the responsibility all yours?
 Best,

 Tim

Thank's a lot for your comment. Concerning development team, yes but only MPatent is under my responsability.

 Next revision coming soon...
