Assign a Group to the Search results |
|
Hi Bruno,
Most of times I do searches by executing different steps/questions. I don't check all the results of every search question before doing the next search question. Usually I have prepared some predefined combinations of terms, codes, companies etc and I prefer to download all the patents and then to examine the results all at once.
So when I examine a particular patent I don't have ready ANY DATA to know WHY such a patent has been downloaded (which particular search question retrieved the document). This previous data is not trivial at all -it is of HIGH interest- and if available it would help at least to clean and filter the information much faster.
The mechanism to mark the results of every search question is just to ASSIGN A GROUP to every search question (optional).
If this mechanism is activated the group could be named by MP "by default" eg. Q1, Q2, Q3, etc or it could be assigned by the user using a more significative term.
One direct advantage of this mechanism is: patents belonging to all questions Q1 Q2 Q3 etc should be the most centered. So I think that it is also a mechanism to score the pertinence of patents.
So I'm asking to MP to include IN THE SEARCH FORM a box to be marked. If marked, the user could choose:
- not to type a search group => MP creates Q1, Q2, etc
- to type the name of a group to be assigned to the results of the search question. The name of this group could be an existing group if the user likes it.
I hope you will value this

A very interesting point
The indexation should provide also combinations
For example if a patent is found by Q1 and Q2 . then it would be very interesting to get q1 or Q2 in the indexation
It would be valuable that it appears also in the bibliographic datas

Dear Thierry and Juan,

The problem is that MP don't save this information because it filter patent since the first step of pre-selecting ! |

I don't understand your expression "MP don't save this information because it filter patent since the first step of pre-selecting !"
could you please elaborate?

... mmm ... I'm thinking ... do you mean that after launching a question => MP shows all the possible answers in a "table of contents" => then the user can validate the patents to be downloaded => ONLY AT THIS MOMENT (not before this moment) MP builds a list with all the patent numbers to be downloaded ... right?
... I can not see the problem.
=> I correct my previous comment: MP should not show the box to be marked in the search form but now in the table of contents.
If not marked, no automatic group is formed
If marked, the user could choose:
- not to type a search group => MP creates Q1, Q2, etc
- to type the name of a group to be assigned to the list of validated patents. The name of this group could be a new group or an existing group if the user likes it.
I think that at this point all is more clear because MP definitely knows:
- a LIST of patents (all the particular patent numbers to be downloaded)
- a Group Name to assign to every patent in the list.
So we are asking to ADD automatically a List of patent numbers to a Group Name
If you make available this function, MP users could build complex Search Strategies in local searches, eg:
Search 1 (with Espacenet search limits of terms&truncation) => Q1
Search 2 (with Espacenet search limits of terms&truncation) => Q2
Search 3 (with Espacenet search limits of terms&truncation) => Q3
Search 4 (with Espacenet search limits of terms&truncation) => Q4
Then you can do Powerful local searches using Qn groups with complex combinations like this one
=> (Group/Q1 OR Group/Q2) AND (Group/Q3 OR Group/Q4)
Also search in the complete text of a Group
=> Group/Q3 AND TEXT/AAA
At the moment complex search strategies like the two mentioned are impossible to execute online
Also Q1 ... Qn can be used to generate graphics.
So I agree to dreyfus that it you can build "Search Step Groups" that would multiply the value of MP.

Hi,
In Fact, the problem is that the structure is not create at the first Step (Pre-Selecting). Only when MP update the database the structure of MP's database is create so i can save Q1 but not other Qn.
I try to find how can add this option that seem a good idea

Hi Bruno,
I seriously think that MP has now already programmed NEAR ALL the necessary mechanisms to implement this Powerful feature. It is just a matter of "Rethinking a new use of the light bubble mechanism"
At the present:
- light bubble is activated just for the new downloaded patents
- it is deactivated after reading a patent for x seconds or by doing "Menu > Edit > all read"
I sugest to implement a new TAG mechanism similar to light bubble but:
- TAG should be activated for all downloaded patents (even if already downloaded)
- All TAGs should be deactivated/deleted before launching every new question.
With this new TAG any user could:
- launch a question Qn => ALL the results corresponding to Qn are tagged
- the user can highlight the tagged records
- the user can assign manually to group Qn or define a new group name
... if you build this simple TAG mechanism ... this is the KEY to:
- quickly identify the best patents
- do local complex searches as mentioned in previous posts.
- etc
I think that it is worth the trouble! Really
